Highlights and tour details

16 km of fascinating and evocative route set among the rocky peaks that separate the Maritime Alps from the Cozie: the former military road, built in the early 1800s as part of the defence works that involved the Italian-French border, connects the Gardetta Plateau with the renowned Maddalena Pass.

Hikers move among wild and rocky landscapes home to ibex and breathtaking views at an altitude of 2600 metres a.s.l. above the upper Stura Valley, between abandoned barracks and other war works once part of the famous defensive network of the Alpino Valley, to the Roburrent lake plateau. From here, the route climbs to the hill and to the French border and then a regular descent leads to the Maddalena Pass, last stage of the historic-naturalistic itinerary.

Note: The Roburent High Road is currently open to hikers and on some stretches to bicycles, while it is closed to vehicle traffic. The road can be taken from the Gardetta Plateau, at the homonymous pass, or from the Maddalena/Larche Pass.
