Anello Ceronda: Stage 1 Balangero - Vallo Torinese

da Balangero a Vallo Torinese (13,80 km)
Highlights and tour details

Departing from the centre of the Municipality of Balangero (430 m), or from the railway station, take the cycle track that runs along the left bank of the Stura di Lanzo going up river from the locality of S. Anna on route n. 402, along municipal and rural roads surrounded by greenery. You go past the Centro Polisportivo Lanzese (sports centre) to reach the town centre where, along a short stretch of ordinary road system, you reach the entrance to the Ponte del Diavolo Park (477 m).

The mainly hiking route begins in this point along track no. 101C, which goes up the north ridge of Monte Corno meeting short stretches of rural track, where track no. 101A starts. You pass Grange Blina (832 m) and Grange Foieri up to the Roc del Merlo peak (1036 m). Keeping to the ridge surrounded by greenery you reach Monte Corno (1226 m), the altimetric peak of the stage, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view both towards the Alps and towards the plain, seeing, on the clearest days, even the outlines of the Lombard Alps in an east-northeast direction.

Still following the ridge you come across a stretch of forest track and then reach the top of Monte Turu (1355 m) marked out by a large pylon. Starting a downhill stretch, you immediately come to the nearby Passo della Croce (1254 m), a historic pass connecting the Turin and Valle di Viù, especially for the partisans during the resistance. In addition to the large metal and wooden cross and the votive statue of the Madonna, there is an open shelter where you can stop and enjoy the same view as before. The descent along path no. 090, with numerous hairpin bends and finally along the road serving the aqueduct, leads to the edge of the village of Vallo Torinese near the Chapel of San Rocco (594 m). From the little church you go down to the village where there is a stop-off point place in private accommodation facilities.
