Description

The Susa Valley stretches from Torino and arrives in France, through 3 passes that have marked its history and, in some way, also the destiny of these times. France is therefore nearby, and Torino is on the other side, further west.

This travel idea is designed for couples and families who want to experience nature but also meet the local people and hear their stories. We will discover a Torino with a multicultural soul, and then Susa, a city on the border, fascinating for its testimonies of Roman and medieval history. We will visit the Novalesa Abbey and the Sacra of San Michele, at the foot of the medieval city of Avigliana, with its lakes and nature reserve.

Schedule

Day 1

Turin and Migrantour. Intercultural walk through the heart of the city to discover the world of integration, among the stalls of the largest open-air market in Europe. In the afternoon, guided tour of the Borgo Dora neighbourhood. At the end of the visit, independent transfer to Avigliana to enter the Susa Valley. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2

We will go to visit the Certosa 1515 to learn about the commitment and solidarity of the cooperative that manages it, created within the Abele Group. Lunch at the Charterhouse. In the afternoon, guided tour of the historic centre of Avigliana. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3

In the morning, departure for Sant'Ambrogio, to begin the climb to the Sacra di San Michele (approx 1 hour 30 mins) along the mule track, accompanied by a nature guide. Return to Sant’Ambrogio or Chiusa San Michele and transfer to Susa. Dinner of your own choosing and overnight stay.

Day 4

In the morning guided tour of Susa. A border city, a place where people pass through and cultures meet, leaving important historical testimonies. Lunch and tasting of local products in the hamlet of Giaglione. Return to Susa for overnight stay. Dinner of your own choosing.

Day 5

In the morning, autonomous transfer to nearby Novalesa to visit the Benedictine Abbazia dei Santi Pietro e Andrea, founded in 726. Before returning to Torino, we recommend a last stop for to tantalise the taste buds and show solidarity at a small restaurant in Vaie, run by a cooperative that helps the vulnerable by having them work and restoring their dignity.
