Highlights and tour details

The route starts from the town of Acqui Terme. If you arrive by train, start from the square in front of the train station, if you arrive by car, a very good starting point is the car park (camper area) located near the Roman bridge over the River Bormida. Leaving the town in the direction of Nizza Monferrato (Via Nizza), take the main road 456 (be careful) and continue for about 8 km into the valley until you reach the small town of Alice Stazione.

Go past the few houses there are and turn immediately right in the direction of Alice BelColle on a quiet, minor road, uphill. After a wide bend, turn left in the direction of Quaranti, still climbing for about 1 km. Once you reach the top of the hill, there is a long descent to Quaranti, in the direction of Mombaruzzo Station.

At the crossroads with the main road near the Cantina Sociale (winery), continue straight on towards Mombaruzzo. About 2 km uphill cycling with a 10% slope at times, takes us to the village famous for the production of amaretti. After enjoying these delicious biscuits, we are off again towards Casalotto where grappa enthusiasts will be able to visit a famous distillery, before continuing downhill towards Bazzana. At the crossroads with the main road from Alexandria (be careful), turn left in the direction of Nizza Monferrato.

A series of gentle hills will take you to the centre of the town famous for the production of an excellent Barbera and Cardo Gobbo. Once you have visited the old town with its imposing medieval palaces, set off again in the direction of Canelli along a flat but busy road (be careful).

When we reach Canelli, we end our day with an exciting visit to the underground Cathedrals or enjoying the view of the city famous for Moscato from Gancia Castle.
