Take the cycle/pedestrian path from the centre of Cannobio that runs along the Cannobino stream on the left bank as far as the Orrido di Sant'Anna, a spectacular gorge dug into the rocks by the stream. Climb up to Traffiume and reach the "di Coss" chapel, behind the village of Traffiume where the Via Borromea path ideally begins, which continues along the hillside to Cavaglio. Turn left for Ponte Falmenta at the junction for Gurrone. From the Valle Cannobina provincial road, cross the stream and follow the spectacular stepped mule track up to Crealla. Continue along the hillside in a shady wood, crossing the valley and finally going up to Falmenta.
