GTA: Stage 8 Ponte - Riale | Biella Valsesia Vercelli

A short stage on which you visit the Fortified House of Formazza and to admire some remarkable examples of Walser architecture in the different hamlets. From the centre of the village of Ponte you cross the Toce River over the bridge before the ENEL power station and follow the G00F path that passes high above Brendo and then becomes a track that continues up to Grovella. Then the track becomes steeper and to get to Canza you have to climb a hump, called "il Cree". Once in Canza you do not cross the river and you continue along a tractorable road that runs along the river which after a while becomes a steep path that goes over a further hump until reaching Sottofrua. From here you continue straight on along a wide path that leads to the beautiful bridge right at the foot of the Cascata del Toce (waterfall). Near the hairpin bend of the road the beautiful steep and stepped mule track that runs along the waterfall begins. Once you get to the top of the waterfall you enter the car park at the historic Albergo della Cascata where a sign indicates the start of the old mule track that once past a hump, reaches La Frua and continues on the hillside to the centre of Fondo di Riale and then to Riale.
