Highlights and tour details

You depart from Canza, ("Frudu Wald", forest of the waterfall, in Walser dialect), a hamlet of Formazza, which was partly rebuilt after an avalanche in 1951, and is cut in half by the Toce river The variant that is always well signposted, starts on the hydrographic right when you leave stage 8 heading towards Riale (route G00F) to take the G99 and go up through the forest with moderate gradients to Sagersboden, the arrival point of the chairlift (about a 1-hr walk). Then continue on the agro-sylvo-pastoral track which, after passing the chairlift station, starts to climb decisively until reaching the stream at an altitude of about 2000 metres and then proceeds on apparently flat ground near the little dam where the fork to rifugio Miriam is located. The landscape is fascinating with an imposing rock formation on the right that is a destination for climbers, and a beautiful waterfall on the left. After about an hour and a half from Sagersboden, after a further small stretch, you reach Rifugio Margaroli, just above Lake Vannino. Here you will reconnect to stages 9 and 10 of the main route.
