Highlights and tour details
This is a ring-route departing from Domodossola that goes clockwise around the plain between Domodossola, Crevoladossola, Montecrestese, Masera and Trontano. The route owes its name to the fact that it passes through five rivers: Toce, Bogna, Diveria, Isorno and Melezzo.
It is best to set off from the large "della Vigezzina" car park in Via Piave, behind the railway station. Take Via Piave southwards as far as the first " AVIS" roundabout and turn left into Via Mizzoccola. The cycle path begins on the left before the bridge, at a railway subway, and runs north along the bank of the River Toce, alternating between stretches of cycle path and dirt track as far as the bridge over River Bogna. Cross the bridge on the side cycle track and follow the cycle path in the Crevoladossola area to reach the industrial area, passing behind the "Mercatone Uno" department store. The cycle path continues along the Oasi di Preglia ( equipped picnic area) as far as the go-kart area. Here you turn left onto a small asphalted road that runs alongside a canal until it meets the provincial road. Turn right immediately and take the cycle/pedestrian lane to the end of the bridge over the Diveria stream, then follow the road, watching out for traffic, as far as the roundabout. Turn right and always watching out for traffic, cross the road bridge downstream from Lake Tana over the River Toce. Turn right in the direction of the sports field and follow the River Toce along a pleasant little dirt road which then passes under the dual carriageway and continues as a natural surface cycle path along the River Isorno as far as Pontetto. Cross the stream on the road bridge and then enter the territory of Masera. Take the first turning on the right along an asphalt track that runs alongside the stream. At the fork, you can continue either to the left (asphalt road crossing the fields) or to the right (dirt road running alongside the foot of the dual carriageway). The two roads join up later and then continue along the banks of the Melezzo stream, which descends from Valle Vigezzo. When you reach the church of Masera, cross the stream on the cycle/pedestrian footbridge and then turn right at the roundabout, following the main road that leads to the junction of the dual carriageway. The road is wide but busy with traffic: be very careful! After 500 metres, take a dirt track on the right which continues along a winding road until it passes under the dual carriageway. A little further on there are two possibilities to continue:
- Continue straight ahead for about 1.9 km on the track at the top of the embankment. In the last 100 m, the track becomes a small path that descends and passes under the railway bridge of the Vigezzina to reach the road to Domodossola at Mizzoccola bridge.
- Take the dirt track on the left that runs alongside the junction of the dual carriageway, pass under the dual carriageway and reach the industrial area. A short stretch of cycle path along the road leads to Via della Colonia, turn right and then left at the first crossroads until you reach the traffic lights on the provincial road; turn right and carefully ride along the road (possible traffic) to the Mizzoccola bridge.
From the Mizzoccola bridge continue along the road until you reach the "Avis" roundabout at the entrance to Domodossola: turn right to reach the departure point, continue straight on to reach the railway station.
In front of Domodossola international railway station, there is the "Ossolainbici" service, an innovative automatic bike rental system. Whoever arrives in Domodossola by train or by car has the possibility to rent a bike by means of an electronic card, allowing them to get around easily and freely.
