Highlights and tour details
This ancient trade route of the people and goods of Cannobio takes its name from S. Carlo Borromeo who made a pastoral visit to the valley in 1574. The saint slept in Gurro, where the splendid "Casa S. Carlo" preserves his memory. Along the mule track two modest aedicules recall the episode of the poor mule that carried Borromeo and that, in the stretch where the mule track starts to descend in the valley of Cavaglio coming from Traffiume, threw the illustrious pilgrim who miraculously escaped the disastrous fall into the abyss that would have been fatal for him. The route connects the Sanctuary of Re in Val Vigezzo with the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Pietà in Cannobio, allowing you to discover the most charming corners of Valle Cannobina.
