Vogogna -Formazza- Cascate del Toce: the Ossola valleys, the High Piedmont you don’t expect
3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS
This is the land of Filippo Ganna, but in the 2003 edition of the Giro d’Italia of 2003 towards Cascata del Toce the Pirate tried the last solo breakaway of his career.
On the road that climbs towards the waterfall, the texts are still all for Marco, “Tragic hero”.
Ossola, “the tip” of Piedmont which seems to belong to no one master and demonstrates magnificent authenticity...with its wild nature. Territory of rare beauty, with ancient villages in which the past is still present. The silence of the highlands is intact, and the mountains develop with breathtaking views crowned by hundreds of lakes in an array of 7 valleys.
Morning arrival to Domodossola and meeting with our guides. Walk around
the city of Domodossola to delight the eyes and the palate; visit and tasting of artisan chocolate in a workshop of the city (Piedmont excellence) and continue along the streets of the pedestrian historic centre of Domodossola with its many stories and curiosities.
Set off to discover the tastes of Ossola crossing various villages with its stone houses. Along the route, tasting of rigorously local wines and products, directly from the producer. Typical lunch in the area. In the afternoon, reach the town of Vogogna, also called “flower of stone” and awarded among “the most beautiful villages in Italy”.
We will walk through the small village which has remained intact over the centuries with its arcades and the Praetorian Palace, to terminate with the magnificent medieval Castle, which hosts a special collection of tin soldiers, an exhibition dedicated to the wolf and a very accurate reconstruction of ancient objects and weapons. Accommodation in rooms booked in the chosen hotel.
