By mountain bike from refuge to refuge
Bike tour along military roads
7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS
Description
The Upper Susa Valley offers an incredible heritage of military roads from the seventeenth-century ones of the endless wars between the House of Savoy and France to the works dating back to the Second World War.
Through breathtaking landscapes, and small villages, pampered by the local food and wine products in the simple and genuine welcoming atmosphere of the Alpine Refuges, a trail that can arouse strong emotions.
Schedule
Day 1
Departure from Bardonecchia (railway station - possibility to rent equipment) - We reach Frejusia at an altitude of 1950 m (up to here, the ski lifts can be used when the season is open). We skirt the Forte del Foens then, finally passing through an incredible and wild alpine landscape we reach Rifugio Levi-Molinari.
Day 2
Departure from Rifugio Levi-Molinar, then we descend to Exilles through ancient villages (Grange Catube, Case Armeita, Cels). We leave the medieval village overlooked by the imposing fortress to reach Salbertrand, where the Nature Reserve is located, passing by the Forte del Sapè and finally Rifugio Arlaud along the seventeenth-century Strada dei Cannoni.
Day 3
We reach the Sentiero Balcone which keeps us at a high altitude so that we can admire the landscapes of the Val Susa. After crossing the ancient village of Sauze di Cesana we reach Rifugio Fontana del Thures, which is surrounded by ancient buildings typical of the Occitan Meizoun.
Day 4
Today we tackle a shorter stage along military roads leading to the Vallo Alpino which take us first as far as Lago Nero with its chapel, which has always been a place of pilgrimage, and soon afterwards to Rifugio Capanna Mautino.
Day 5
Still following the military roads, we reach Sagnalonga, where we can choose between a more panoramic stretch at high altitude or one that allows us to stay in the woods. After Cesana Torinese we reach the ancient village of Fenils and after the hamlet of Amazas, with a little effort we reach the stopover of the day: the hamlet of Vazon and Rifugio La Chardouze along roads brimming with history, travelled since the Celtic era.
Day 6
We leave Rifugio La Chardouse and its hamlet Vazon to reach Beaulard passing through the hamlet of Chateau. From here you follow the cross-country track until you reach Bardonecchia and go back up the road that leads us to the Forte del Bramafam, look out over the French territory after a while, going up the enchanting Valle Stretta to reach the Rifugio Terzo Alpini.
Day 7
Final day. Mandatory excursion before descending to Bardonecchia and the incredible Lago Verde and then on to the town of Bardonecchia.
