Day 1

Meet in Susa. Transfer to Bonneval Sur Arc. Along the Chemin de l'Histoire, an easy hiking route of great historical and architectural interest. We pass through the village of Bessans to end in Lanslevillard. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 2

We go up to the Mont-Cenis Pass and take the Chemin de la Ramasse route that was used for the transport of passengers with sleds to the pass up to the Napoleonic era. We follow the paved road for a short distance and then skirt round the stunning scenery of the lake and the Refuge du Petit Mont-Cenis mountain hut.

Day 3

We go up to the highest point on this tour, the Clapier Pass, passing Lake Savine to finally arrive at the Vaccarone mountain hut through a splendid high altitude landscape. It is the most demanding stage but your efforts will be rewarded by frequent wildlife sightings.

Day 4

We descend towards the limestone rock formations of the Denti di Chiomonte, stopping at the "Buco di Colombano Romean", an incredible tunnel dug by one man all on his own in the mid-16th century, to reach the Rifugio Levi mountain hut via the panoramic balcony trail. These paths provide a taste of the atmosphere of ancient mountaineering.

Day 5

Descent to Salbertrand. We reach Ponte della Canebiers, the site of a clash between the French army and the surviving Waldensians. You will surely empathise with the Waldensians, tested to their limits by their enemies and by nature. Visit to the Material Culture Ecomuseum of the Alpi Cozie Park. End of the trek.
